Midmart Matchmaker 1 (CGI Version) - FAQ

  • 1- What language the script is written in?

    • The Midmart Matchmaker script was written in Perl language.

  • 2- What are the system requirements for the Midmart Matchmaker?

    • Midmart Matchmaker requires a Unix or Windows server, with perl 5 or higher.

  • 3-Does your script work on a Windows NT environment?

    • Windows version of our matchmaker script is available also. It works on both Windows NT and Windows 98 Systems. If you would like to order it, in the "comments to vendor" field of our order form please mention that you would like to get the Windows version. This version doesn't need the "sendmail" program using by Unix systems to send emails, although you have to have Socket.pm and strick.pm modules installed on your perl. We strongly recommend Active Perl written by ActiveState Tool Corp. You can download it for Free at: http://www.ActiveState.com

  • 4- I know very little about CGI, how hard is it for me to install?

    • It's quiet easy. Every thing has been explained in the README.TXT file. If you have a very basic knowledge about CGI you'll be able to do it yourself without any problem.
    Anyway, we may install the script for you for an additional $80.

  • 5- Could you explain the "fee based" system and how that works?

    • The default of the matchmaker system is "free". It means that all users may join and send emails to other members for free.

    When you choose the "fee-based" option while setup, your users will be able to create a profile, but will not be able to send emails to other users, until you "register" them. The administrator have options to register and unregister users in admin area.

    Currently the fee-based system accept credit card information for off-line processing by the site owner. If you provide us with the necessary information, we can modify it for you to work with your desired credit card processing company free of charge. (You may ask your the support department of your credit card processing company for the integration information)

    You should check with your payment processing company if their system is integrable to an external CGI script first.

    We have connection between Midmart Matchmaker and "Authorize.net" and "WorldPay.com" ready to use.

  • 6- How many members can the data base handle?

    • Theoretically there is no limitation about the number of members, although actually it depends on your server resources. We have tested a demo site with over 20,000 members on a Windows 98 system with 32 megabytes of Ram without any problem. Again, it directly depends on your server resources. There are actual sites with over 16,000 members at the moment. You may check : http://www.iranmatch.org as one of the largest sites using Midmart Matchmaker.

  • 7- I've ordered the matchmaker. When and how I will receive my script?
    • We will send you the script by email as soon as we get the confirmation of your payment.

  • 8- Can I modify the script easily?

    • If you would like to change the looks of the pages, there are three variables ($BODY, $HEADER and $FOOTER) in the set up file. So you may change the colors, add graphics, text blocks or tables. But it will be the same for All pages. There is not templates.

    In the usual CGI Scripts it's OK if you add some options to the combo boxes, but because of the "fixed length" nature of Midmart Matchmaker Version 2, there are "default maximum characters" for each field and it's not that easy to change the .HTML files. If you really need to add some options to the fields, the whole scripts should be modified.

    We may make some minor changes like changing the colors, titles, etc. and installation of the script on your server for an additional $80.

    Major changes can be made by our staff on a hourly basis ($35/hour) also. If you need some modifications, please contact us before ordering.

  • 9- I need versions in other languages.

    • It's quiet easy to do it yourself: Just look for the blocks of text in .CGI files and replace them to your desired text in any language,

    but please note that you can not translate the option lists and fields. We are not able to translate the script to any other languages by our staff.

  • 10- Can I get fast support from you if needed?

    • Sure. We will try our best to offer a fast support to our customers.
